In Regulatory Wrap for the week to May 22, 2026:

In this week’s Regulatory Wrap, we review the 1LoD’s 2026 surveillance benchmarking report, sponsored by Global Relay, which assesses how surveillance leaders plan to manage market abuse detection and prevention over the next three years.

Highlights:

1. The industry is amidst a transformative period – new technology is now available, but the data infrastructure that firms need to fully embrace it is still coming into place

2. There has been a noticeable shift in the way that firms monitor culture and conduct risk, driven by the growing regulatory focus on areas such as non-financial misconduct

3. In 2026, 89% of respondents said they would use surveillance tools to proactively monitor workplace culture, compared to 59% in 2024

4. AI-wise, 70% of firms said they’re in proof-of-concept or active deployment stages for AI eComms and voice use cases, though 44% are still at the research stage for surveillance

5.   Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that 71% of respondents said that fragmented data remains the biggest barrier to effective surveillance

This week’s Regulatory Wrap is brought to you by Global Relay’s VP of Marketing, Jennie Clarke.

With these findings considered, it’s clear that the “surveillance storm” is coming. The question is – are firms ready to weather it?
