Sun Microsystems

Sun Microsystems, the global supplier of network computing solutions, powers Global Relay with its core operating systems - the Solaris 10 OS.

Why Sun? With over 100 world records to its name, the sophisticated Solaris 10 OS, Sun's open source OS, was chosen by Global Relay due to its unmatched enterprise security, performance, reliability and massive scalability - everything that Global Relay strives for in delivering its services to its customers.

Highlights: Solaris 10 includes more than 600 features that make it the most efficient, secure, and reliable operating system ever built, including rock-solid Solaris security, controlled access and identity management; Dynamic Tracing (real-time tool debugging and performance optimization), which when combined with the Solaris Zettabyte File System (ZFS) provides Global Relay with a bullet proof file system and volume manager designed with essentially unlimited storage to provide end-to-end checksumming to ensure data consistency.

Key Solaris OS Advantages

To ensure its high availability, Solaris OS includes Solaris Rights Management, Process Rights Management and N1 Grid Container software for top security, with rigorous policy-based access, distribution, and execution of processes and services identity management; AMD System Support, Dynamic Tracing, a real-time application debugging and optimization; Solaris Containers and TCP/IP performance enhancements.

Solaris Zettabyte File System (ZFS)

Solaris Zettabyte File System is the Solaris self-managing OS Dynamic File System technology which provides 16 billion times more capacity than current file systems. Solaris ZFS constantly reads and checks data to help ensure it is correct and, if it detects an error in a mirrored pool, the technology can automatically repair the corrupt data. Since all data is protected by 256-bit checksums, data integrity and consistency is maintained at all times.
