Incoming Email needs to be protected from spam, viruses, worms, phishing scams as well as assisting in enforcing your email policies. Global Relay's Email Filtering eliminates viruses, provides powerful spam management tools and incorporates disaster recovery systems. In the event your organization suffers a network outage, server shutdown or catastrophic failure, it is invaluable. Most spam detection software programs do not work because spammers receive the same anti-spam engine upgrades, and simply develop new techniques to circumvent them within minutes of their release. These software programs, in effect, engage in an un-winnable battle against spammers.

With Cloudmark Authority for SpamAssassin, Global Relay accomplishes spam detection through a combination of Advanced Message Fingerprinting™ and the world's largest threat detection network, the Global Threat Network. These components, together with automated analytical processes, drive the system's unsurpassed 98 percent spam filtering accuracy with near zero false positives.

Global Relay's Spam Management is powered by multi-level gateway filters including intelligent Bayesian filtering technology. Global Relay's Email Filtering learns and adapts to spammers in real-time by comparing known "good email" with known "spam." Although individual reporting is not required, with User assistance, spam identification can be optimized on a global basis.



A copy of your quarantined email is 'cached' on the Email Filtering system for a 60 day period:

  1. Good Email Cache contains email not identified as spam;
  2. Spam Cache/Quarantine contains email identified as spam.

Missed spam found in the Good Email Cache can be reported, which helps train the filter. Good Email found in the Spam Cache/Quarantine can be rescued.

Virus Scanning. Eliminate viruses with highly accurate results.

Spam filtering is tailored to your requirements. Options include:

  • Tag & Forward with powerful online tools to filter and review messages.
  • Flow-through tagging, forwarding all tagged spam to your server enabling company wide rules-based routing of the tagged spam to a Users junk mail folder for review. The system inserts an "X-Spam-Flag: YES" header and appends "Spam:" to the subject line.

Store & Forward. In the event you suffer a network outage, require a server upgrade or repair your email will be queued for up to 14 days and be forwarded immediately upon your server coming online.

Mail Buffering can assist in the event of a disaster. A server crash normally results in the loss of all email received between the time of the crash and your last backup. This system enables you to recover up to 30 days of email playing a key role in your disaster recovery planning.

Multi-Server routing. Companies operating multiple email servers or utilizing redundant connectivity may specify multiple IP addresses for email delivery. Should the primary IP address be unavailable, email will be automatically routed to the alternate IP address.

Features available to Users online:

  • Rescue (deliver), delete or "confirm as spam" quarantined email
  • Report "false negatives" (email that should have been marked as spam) and auto-train filter
  • Manage quarantined items for up to 60 days (at which time they are deleted)
  • Reporting & statistics for virus & spam

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

Once you have signed up online, a simple modification to your domain's MX Record is required to point it to our Email Filtering server. No hardware or software is required.

Your MX record should be changed to point to two of our mail servers both with a priority of 10:

  • gateway1.globalrelay.com
  • gateway2.globalrelay.com

Global Relay will require the Host Name or External IP Address of your mail server so we can setup our system to properly redirect filtered mail to.

How long does it take to activate my mail?

Typically, MX Record change notices can be sent out within one business day from signing up online. Generally, an MX Record change takes one to two days to propagate over the Internet (so don't cancel your old email account until a few days after transitioning).

How do I initiate access to my Email Filtering account?

For our Global Mail customers, you automatically have access to the Email Filtering to manage your own spam. You must activate your account first by logging into the Email Filtering through our Login page using the same username and password that you use for your email.

If you do not use Global Mail, individual user access to the Gateway must be setup through your Administrator. The Administrator should email support@globalrelay.net with the new user details that include their email address and any aliases that are attached to it.

Is the Email Filtering controlled by our Administrator or by individual users?

Your Email Filtering can be controlled at the user level. Spam filtering and Virus detection is enabled on a Domain wide basis by default.
