CEO & Founder

Warren Roy is CEO & Founder of Global Relay. A life-long entrepreneur and a 20-year veteran in the information technology sector, Warren drives the overall strategic direction for Global Relay — focusing on the design and development of cloud-based messaging, collaboration and archiving solutions to address compliance requirements for the financial sector. Warren founded Global Relay in 1999 with a vision to create multi-lingual, enterprise-class messaging services for the Web, BlackBerry and iPhone. Today, Global Relay provides services to more than 15,000 financial firms globally — including 22 of the world's top 25 banks.

Under Warren's leadership, Global Relay has become an internationally recognized leader in compliance archiving, the largest third party downloader and archiver of Bloomberg messaging and is Thomson Reuters' exclusive Strategic Partner for messaging compliance worldwide.

In 2012, Warren was celebrated as BC CEO of the Year by Business in Vancouver Magazine for his outstanding vision, strategy and leadership at Global Relay.

Shannon Rogers

Shannon Rogers

President & General Counsel

As Global Relay's President & General Counsel, Shannon is responsible for Global Relay's business strategy and business development. Over Global Relay's history, Shannon has been integral in establishing Global Relay's strong business relationships and global distribution network. Shannon also directs all aspects of Global Relay's legal affairs and leads the day-to-day operations of the Legal Team, and oversees the Compliance, Audit & eDiscovery Team, who are charged with customer compliance related to the archiving, monitoring, auditing, eDiscovery, privacy and business continuity requirements of highly regulated industries such as those governed by the SEC, FINRA (formerly NASD), Sarbanes-Oxley, FRCP, IIROC Canada (formerly IDA), FSA (UK), and HIPAA. With Global Relay's international focus, Shannon plays a pivotal role in privacy and international jurisdictional issues related to data protection.

Shannon has been ranked 1st for Canada's Top Women Entrepreneurs for 2011 (Profit W100), as well as named to "Top 40 Lawyers Under 40" (Lexpert 2006) honoring Canada's Top Lawyers under age 40, and "Forty under 40" (BIV 2007) honoring Vancouver's top entrepreneurs under age 40. Shannon holds both a common law (LLB) degree and a civil law degree (BCL) from McGill University, and a Bachelor degree in Political Science from University of Victoria. Before joining Global Relay in 2003, Shannon practiced business and securities law at two national law firms, McCarthy Tetrault in Toronto, and Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in Vancouver. She is based in Global Relay's Vancouver office.

Duff Reid

COO & Co-Founder

As COO, Duff has overall responsibility for Global Relay's Technical Operations. With more than 16 years experience in the technology arena, Duff co-founded Global Relay after working in architecture and engineering CAD (computer aided design) projects. Duff brings leadership and drive in the development of Global Relay's infrastructure and proprietary systems.

Duff is a graduate of Okanagan University College specializing in Civil Engineering Technology and was the recipient of the Governor General's Bronze Collegiate Award for Academic Excellence. Duff enjoys skiing, mountain biking and woodwork.

Kelvin Ng

Kelvin Ng

Director, Business Operations

As Director, Business Operations, Kelvin works closely with the entire leadership team in overseeing business operations including human resources, supplier management, and initiatives related to the support of organizational growth and infrastructure. Kelvin has been engaged in executive management and project leadership roles globally in the service, product and government categories for over 25 years.

Prior to joining the Global Relay team in the summer of 2009, Kelvin held key management positions and facilitated growth of companies in the security, marketing, research, and information technology sectors, including more than 6 years in enterprise email and compliance software with Yaletown Technology and FileNet. A graduate of Simon Fraser University (BA, Criminology), Kelvin is a longstanding member of the American Society for Industrial Security and served for many years on their Privacy and Personnel Information Management Council. He continues to contribute to a number of businesses as a board member.

Stephen Lazenby

Global Head of Product Management

Stephen Lazenby heads the product management and development groups at Global Relay, bringing over 16 years experience in software and business development experience to the role. In 2009, Stephen joined Global Relay from IBM Software Group where he was responsible for product management of all corporate compliance software products in IBM's ECM portfolio. At IBM, Stephen worked closely with major global finance and insurance institutions on their archiving, records management, and eDiscovery needs, a role he continues in at Global Relay.

Stephen has served as an Executive Committee Member of the Vancouver Product Management Association and has a bachelor's degree in history from the University of British Columbia.

Colin Quon

Colin Quon

Head of Mobile

Colin leads Global Relay's mobile development for both the Search and Message Apps. Colin is a serial technology entrepreneur and was the Founder & CEO of ANTS Distributed Media, a developer of advanced media and mobile application management platforms. Prior to ANTS, Colin founded EQO Communications, a venture capital backed startup which developed the first mobile social phonebook application with 3 million users. At EQO, Colin was CTO, founding CEO, and general manager of China operations.

Before EQO, Colin led product management and development at TELOS Technology, and developed the first mobile softswitch. Colin also spent more than 10 years in senior R&D, product management, and business development roles in telecom systems and wireless chipsets at Nortel, Holley Communications, and Glenayre. Colin holds a BASc in Electrical Engineering from Simon Fraser University and an MBA from the University of British Columbia.

Alfred Scholldorf

Global Systems Architect

Alfred Scholldorf, Ph.D., is Global Systems Architect at Global Relay. Dr. Fred Scholldorf joined the company in 2009 bringing his many years of experience with Microsoft LCS and OCS and other real-time messaging systems to Global Relay and its customers. Under Dr. Scholldorf's direction, Global Relay has built a high performance SIP-to-SIP instant messaging clearing house called "Message Hub", making it easy for customers to collaborate in real-time, securely, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Dr Fred Scholldorf, comes to Global Relay after more than 20 years of experience in software and systems design and architecture in the global financial systems powerhouse Thomson-Reuters. While at Reuters his most recent position was the VP and Global Head of Systems Architecture for the Collaboration Services team who developed Reuters Messaging, Reuters Chat and the associated systems and infrastructure services. Prior to collaboration services, Dr. Scholldorf worked on many other projects within Reuters including design of systems for the automated matching of orders in the interbank foreign exchange and exchange-traded commodity futures and options markets. Throughout his career, Dr Scholldorf has been committed to building global-scale, high performance systems using the latest technology. He has mentored many people in the art and science of performance analysis, combining a rigorous scientific software design approach with practical cost-effective benchmarking and measurement. This blended approach is essential, Dr Scholldorf feels, to achieving system architectures that withstand the test of time. Dr Scholldorf has a Ph.D. in Physics from State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a B.S. in Physics and Math from Clarkson University.

Director, Global Relay Archive

Eric Parusel is both a Senior Systems Architect at Global Relay and Director, Global Relay Archive. Having been with Global Relay since its inception, Eric has provided the ingenuity behind the architecture and development of Global Relay Archive from its creation to present day. Eric's responsibilities also include architecting various security and encryption layers to keep data secure.

Michael Sample

Michael Sample

Senior Systems Architect

Mike Sample designs Global Relay's data formats and messaging and compliance products. He also works with partners and customers to ensure seamless, secure integration with Global Relay.

A 20 year veteran of the software industry Mike has held various roles such as chief architect, company founder, consultant, and university lecturer. An initial focus on protocol testing with Idacom (HP-Agilent) led to co-founding NSG Network Software Group. After selling NSG, he researched transactional distributed systems at Open Text. His areas of expertise and interest are distributed systems, communication protocols, security, and enterprise systems. When not playing with technology Mike enjoys mountaineering and backcountry skiing and is a member of North Shore Search and Rescue.

Mike holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia. He authored the widely adopted open-source ASN.1 compiler, SNACC, which is in use by 100's of millions of cell phones worldwide and many other applications. Mike is a past member of the W3C Advisory Committee and UDDI Advisory Board and has published several journal and conference papers.

Lu Vo

Lu Vo

Director, Service Operations

Lu Vo leads a dedicated Systems Administration team to ensure that Global Relay's infrastructure, including network and systems, are operating optimally. Lu is a skilled systems engineer with over 15 years of experience working on a wide range of disciplines from customer care and data center infrastructure, to research and development. His prior career was in research, working on Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis and the role of peptides in immunological responses.

Lu holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Calgary and a degree in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia.

Glenn Rogers

Glenn Rogers

Director, Audits and eDiscovery

Glenn has been with Global Relay for more than five years and heads up Global Relay's Audit & eDiscovery team. He also specializes in assisting clients with SEC and FINRA compliance examinations and legal subpoenas. Glenn and his team specialize in the importation and extraction of data, Audit and litigation support and search guidance and training. Glenn's background is in marketing and he worked at a major radio station for five years prior to joining Global Relay. In the course of his career at Global Relay, Glenn has gained a reputation for his expertise in regulatory compliance issues.

Glenn graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and later completed the University of British Columbia's Internet Marketing program through the Sauder School of Business.

 

Bryan Young

VP, Sales

Bryan Young joined Global Relay in 2006. While at Global Relay Bryan has held numerous customer and partner engagement roles focused on expanding Global Relay's customer base within the financial services and insurance sectors. Bryan manages key Global Relay customers and is actively engaged with Global Relay's network of strategic partners.

Prior to Global Relay, Bryan held positions with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia and Fox News Channel. Bryan is fluent in French and holds a B.A. from Simon Fraser University.

 

Cherian Palayoor

Cherian Palayoor

Information Security Manager

Cherian Palayoor is Head of Information Security at Global Relay, and oversees security architecture, policy, risk management, monitoring, compliance and IT audit. Bringing over 15 years of experience in information security and technology to his role, Cherian has held senior leadership roles in information security that cuts across a wide range of industries both in the private and public sector; such as Travel & Leisure, Forestry, Consumer Insurance, Health Care, and Technology Services. Cherian brings strong expertise in Security Governance, Compliance and Risk Management.

Cherian is responsible for ensuring that Global Relay systems consistently meet and exceed industry standards such as ISO 27001, SSAE 16 SOC II/III and NIST 800-53 - truly critical to the security and protection of customer data at Global Relay. In addition, Cherian plays an integral role in facilitating KPMG’s annual independent verification of Global Relay business, operational and security controls. He also liaises with customers on all matters concerning information and archive security.

Cherian holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).

 

Peter Macdonald

Senior Solutions Architect

As Senior Solutions Architect, Peter Macdonald leads a team that designs and develops mission-critical cloud-based technologies which power Global Relay next-generation services — including Global Authentication Services and Service Manager. Peter has over 30 years’ experience in the software industry serving in senior roles ranging from lead architect to executive-level technical and product management.

Peter has worked on a variety of remarkable and complex projects throughout his career. He is a true ‘rocket scientist': while at McDonald Dettweiler & Associates (MDA), he led the development of a real-time satellite control system for the Canadian Space Agency’s RADARSAT-1 program. He also holds a patent for full resolution stereoscopic display, which arose out of his investigation of the feasibility of digital photogrammetric workstations. For Mercury Scheduling, Peter developed Magellan — a real-time airline crew scheduling product to which many worldwide airlines entrusted their entire business. At Realm Dynamics, Peter’s team developed a multi-tenanted cloud-computing platform for J2EE Enterprise Applications in the SMB market.

Peter has a B.Sc. in Physics from Queens University, a M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from McMaster University and a M.Sc. in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University.
