The Position:
This is a unique legal role for an out-of-the-box, business-oriented thinker. Working closely with Global Relay's General Counsel, Shannon Rogers, (who was named one of Canada's Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 by Lexpert, and Ranked 22 in Canada for Top Women Entrepreneurs in 2009), you will have a diverse array of legal, business and consultative responsibilities. The successful candidate will:
- Negotiate and draft complex business arrangements
- Establish commercial relationships, partnerships and licensing agreements
- Provide a strategic blend of business and legal advice to senior management
- Research and advise on international regulatory, legal and compliance issues related to data protection, privacy and eDiscovery
- Advise on and prepare internal and external communications
- Assist in developing, establishing and updating internal policies
- Anticipate and protect against legal risks
- Draft, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, blogs and other documents related to eDiscovery, compliance, privacy, intellectual property, and international jurisdictional and data issues
- Assist with recruitment, employment and HR issues
- Assist with Corporate governance
- Consult with customers and partners related to compliance and eDiscovery needs
- Generally assist with business operations and strategy
Qualifications:
- 3-6 years experience in quality corporate/commercial law
- A Law degree from a recognized institution
- Strong communication, writing and drafting skills with high attention to details
- Motivation, aptitude as a self starter, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Strong experience in the negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts
- Strong work ethic with a willingness to multi-task and be flexible to take on varied responsibilities
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion and be entrusted with confidential information
- Ability to work under pressure with time constraints
- Good judgment to proactively and independently solve problems and make decisions
- A background in business, Internet technology or financial compliance is a plus
